Rules of the Course, Policies and Guidelines

GENERAL

The rules of Radley College will apply to all members & guests whilst on college grounds.

The Rules of Golf, as laid down by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, will apply at all times.

Local Rules, printed on the scorecard, published in the clubhouse and on the club website apply at all times.

PLAYING TIMES

Hours of play are shown on the playing calendar on the club website.

The course may be closed by greens staff or committee members, when conditions are such that the course will suffer, or it is deemed to be unsafe e.g. fog, lightning, wind.

The course may be closed by greens staff or committee members for necessary maintenance of the course or other special events which will be announced in advance.

The decision to use frost greens will be made on a daily basis by the greens staff. The flags may only be put back on the greens with prior agreement with the greens staff.

Club officials or Radley College grounds staff may, on occasion, suspend play by sounding an air horn. If this happens then play must be suspended immediately. Resumption will also be on the sound of the air horn.

PLAYING THE COURSE

Groups of more than four players are not allowed.

Play must only start from the 1st tee, except in a match designated by the committee to do so.

Priority on the 1st / 10th tee

When the whole group is leaving the 9th green, and nobody is ready and waiting to start their match on the 1st tee, they have the right to claim the 1st tee. When the whole group is leaving the 9th green, and a group is ready and waiting to start their match on the 1st tee, they have the right to slot in immediately behind that group and ahead of any other waiting groups.

Each player must have a set of clubs and carry them in a golf bag.

When white Medal Tees are in play, players may play off of white, yellow or red tees, as appropriate.

Matches falling more than one hole behind the match in front must invite the following match through if they are holding that match up. Calling through is determined by pace-of-play, not by the size of the group.

Mobile phones are not to be used on the golf course, except in an emergency. If you need to take your mobile phone with you, please set it to silent.

Single players are encouraged to join others to make up two, three or four-ball matches.

Children may accompany members whilst playing the course. Members are responsible for the safety and conduct of children under their care, and must ensure that their speed of play is not affected to the annoyance of the other members.

A member may only introduce one guest in any one day, except on sign-up club competition days when no guests are permitted. If a member introduces a guest, the member must play with their guest. A member is responsible for the conduct of their guest and for ensuring that the appropriate Green Fee is paid before play commences. See the club website for further information.

Dogs are not allowed on the course.

CARE OF THE COURSE

Divots must be replaced, bunkers must be raked, and pitch-marks on greens must be repaired.

Only wide-wheeled trolleys are allowed on the course.

Trolleys may be banned or restricted at the discretion of the green staff, and notified on the ClubV1 APP / HowDidiDo App.

During a trolley ban, trolleys are not allowed on the course.

During a trolley restriction, only members with a trolley permit will be allowed to use trolleys.

To obtain a permit to use a trolley during a trolley restriction an application should be made the club secretary.

Tee mats must be used when in play. Tee mats must not be used when not in play.

The position of the tee markers will indicate if mats are in play.

Practising on the course is not allowed.

There are practice nets and a putting green behind the 1st tee, and practice areas on either side of the 1st Fairway.

SAFETY

All players are responsible for their own safety and the safety of others.

Players should not play from the 1st tee while vehicles are using the approach road to the car park.

FOG AND POOR VISIBILITY

Play must not start from the 1st tee if the first bunker on the right-hand side of the 1st fairway is not clearly visible from the back of the men’s white tee box, marked by the white disc in the ground.

If conditions deteriorate during a round to the level above, then play should stop.

During fog and poor visibility, players must use their own judgement and they must never hit a ball further than they can see it land.

If a player hits a shot ‘blind’ into fog, mist or poor visibility they could be found negligent and held personally liable for the injuries and damage caused.

Etiquette

The Etiquette of Golf must be observed at all times.

The club wishes to preserve a “smart but casual” approach based on clothing that is principally designed for golf.

All dress must be of a smart standard.

Golf shoes must be worn. Metal spiked shoes are not to be worn on the golf course.

Shorts, trousers & skirts should be tailored.  When wearing shorts or skirts, socks are to be worn.

Shirts are to be tucked in unless specifically designed not to be.  Roll neck golf tops may be worn.

The following are not acceptable:

Collarless shirts, football or rugby shirts, tracksuits, denim jeans, casual shorts (e.g. beach, football, rugby and combat).

Car Parking

Car parking is available near the Clubhouse. Cars are parked at the owner’s risk, although under the club insurance policy members may be covered for damage caused to vehicles by errant golf balls.

If you fail to comply with these rules, you may be approached by a committee member or member of the grounds staff and be required to leave the course. You may also be subject to the disciplinary procedure of the club and/or college.
